BOSTON (USA) - Just rigid diets and diet pills. A simple gesture can help keep your weight and to regulate food intake in the arrival: drinking water before meals. Dieticians say it for years but only recently the studies of distinguished international scientists have scientifically demonstrated. Drinking water before meals may therefore reduce the calorie intake, although the effect seems more evident in older people.
FIRST, TWO GLASSES OF MEALS - In a study published in the journal randomized Obesity in February 2010 and presented at the annual meeting of the American Chemical Society in Boston, scientists at Virginia Tech have shown that drinking two glasses of water before each meal helps lose weight. The researchers followed a group of 48 overweight adults aged 55 to 75 years who followed a low-calorie diet for about three months (1,200 calories per day for women and 1,500 calories per day for men. At half the people was told to drink two glasses of 500 ml before breakfast, lunch and dinner. At the end of the study, the group that drank water before meals lost an average of 7 pounds each, while those who had not done so, it had declined to less than 5 pounds. After three months, so obese people who drank a pint of water before each meal lost 2.2 pounds more than people who had not increased water intake.
The EXPERT - "Research has shown - says Brenda Davy, lead author of the study and associate professor of nutrition at Virginia Tech - such as during a weight loss diet low in calories; the addition of water can help you lose weight ". Other revelations made one year after the beginning of the study showed that weight loss seems to be lasting. PREVIOUS STUDIES - The same Brenda Davy, in a preceding study in 2008 had already analyzed the benefits in terms of weight of drinking water, showing a reduction in calorie intake by 13 percent in overweight subjects who consumed water before breakfast. One of his third trials , this time in 2007, has had a remarkable result: drink water 30 minutes before a meal reduces your calorie intake and hunger in older adults, but has the little effect on the subjects under 35 years. It is unclear why, but researchers have stressed that this could be because the elderly are at greater risk of overweight and obesity.
